It is summertime, which means lots of fun family BBQs. While we like to vary our menu a bit from time to time, the one food that most everyone loves and is kid friendly is the classic cheeseburger. When grocery shopping, I always get the essentials – burger buns, ground beef, and cheese. The question is what is the best cheese for your cheeseburger?
The type of cheese that you use for your cheeseburger really depends on your preferences. Since kids tend to like the same things and not branch out into new flavors, I always make sure we have Borden® American Melts for cheeseburgers. Classic American cheese is always a win! The mild flavor is the perfect addition to a cheeseburger.
If you are cooking for teens or adults, you can add some variety with other favorite cheeses like Borden® Pepper Jack Melts, Extra Sharp Cheddar Melts, or Swiss Melts. Guests can always try combinations of cheeses for the ultimate flavor.
What is the best melting cheese?
The ideal cheese for melting is definitely Borden® Melts. These cheese slices melt quickly and effortlessly as they are made with real cream to ensure the perfect melt every time.
For achieving the ultimate cheese pull, add more than one slice to your burger; I used two slices of Borden American Melts and got the perfect cheese pull!
Borden® Cheese is made with real milk and is 100% owned by American dairy farm families.
What kind of beef do I use for a grilled cheeseburger?
Most people say that 80/20 is best, which is 80% lean and 20% fat. You can definitely grill whatever blend of ground beef that you want, however, but the lean beef will be a bit more dry and less flavorful.
You can also grill chicken burgers, turkey burgers, or even a vegan burger, but the typical ground beef burger is the top pick. Make your patties a little thinner to make double cheeseburgers. That always seems to go well at my house. Splitting the patty size makes the cheese distribute more evenly, too.
Some people just prefer simple salt and pepper for seasoning, but you can add other seasonings like onion salt, garlic salt, or even mix it into the meat before forming the burger patties.
What other toppings can I add to my cheesy cheeseburger?
The thing I love about cheeseburgers is that different people with different tastes can have different toppings! It’s perfect. Kids can have just cheese, burger patty, and bread, while Dad can load up his cheeseburger with Swiss cheese, red onions, pickled banana peppers, barbecue sauce and he will call that the best burger! Don’t forget condiments like creamy mayo, ketchup, and mustard. The larger your guest list, the larger your range of options should be!
Serve your cheeseburgers with your favorite chips, beans, and summertime fruit like watermelon to round out the meal.
I always enjoyed when my dad grilled hamburgers for us during the summer. It was a very sweet time and the memories of his delicious burgers on the wood grill cannot be matched. The food alone and the fact that my parents put so much work into it was incredible. Whatever kind of grill you have, your burgers are going to turn out great with these few ideas and hints!
Other ideas for a fun family BBQ
If you want to really go out for your family BBQ, the best way to do that is to designate someone as cook, another person in charge of decorations, and then one more person, or people, as events coordinator. This can even be done in your own family. Dad can be the cook, the kids in charge of decorations, and Mom can plan a few fun games to play. Of course, you can have a food only BBQ, but the decor and games make it more fun and last longer, especially if you have company over.
Fun BBQ games, common backyard games include corn hole, horseshoes, or even a backyard obstacle course for the kids. Kids of a younger age might enjoy being outdoors, and that’s okay, too. Just make sure they have safe boundaries and someone keeping an eye on them.
