I just learned that today is World Read Aloud Day! What a fun day to celebrate literacy! The LitWorld website states that at least 793 MILLION people worldwide remain illiterate. Everyone should have the opportunity to pick up a good book and just read. World Read Aloud day “motivates children, teens, and adults worldwide to celebrate the power of words, especially those words that are shared from one person to another, and creates a community of readers advocating for every child’s right to a safe education and access to books and technology.” (LitWorld)
So what will you be reading today? At our house, the Captain’s current favorite is Eric Carle’s “The Very Hungry Caterpillar.” We’ve read it once and will likely be reading it again. I challenge you to pick up a book and read it. If your child brings you a book, read it to them. Read anything! And when you’re done, share how you celebrated World Read Aloud Day at LitWorld.

Thanks I didn't know that! I might just have to do up a quick post on my book blog about it.
