Create a Fun I Spy Bottle for Sick Days!
There is nothing that I dislike more than when my kids are sick. The only good things that come out of sicknesses are lots of snuggles and also, lots of joy when they are finally better! It is funny how grateful I become after my children get well from their illnesses.Stomach bugs are the worst, in my opinion, as far as childhood illnesses go. Our house got hit hard around Easter and it seemed to last forever! Four days later, and everyone seemed to be on the mend. They were so sick that all they wanted to do was lay in bed. They wanted to be DOING something, but they just could not get up, and believe me, I did not want them to move! Strategically placed trash cans, towels, and extra sheets helped me contain the mess. I don’t think I need to explain further.
Two things that you need to have on hand for such sick days include Enfamil® Enfalyte® and these DIY I Spy Bottles. They are both necessities!
DIY I Spy Bottle
Materials Needed
- colored rice (available on Amazon or craft stores, or make your own)
- one clean, dry plastic bottle or glass jar
- funnel
- an assortment of plastic letters, beads, rocks, marbles, and other small odds and ends
- strong adhesive glue
Directions
- Decide what pieces you will want in your I Spy Bottle. Think 10-15 items per bottle.
- Lay out pieces and photograph them, so your child will be able to have a reference photo for finding all the pieces when it is assembled.
- Print photo out.
- Fill your washed and dried bottle about ¾ full with colored rice.
- Put items into jar.
- Pour more rice into bottle or jar, leaving about 1-2″ on top so objects and rice can move around inside.
- Glue lid on with strong adhesive glue!
- Let glue dry and test out to make sure the lid is very secure.
**SAFETY NOTES** Adult supervision is always, always required. Glass jars should never be thrown and only used on soft surfaces. If lids become loose or plastic bottles form holes, it’s best to throw away the bottle and start over.
These I Spy Bottles are perfect for quiet times and sick days, when kids are laying in bed and just need something to take their mind off of their illness, all while using their brains!

What a great combination for a sick day... no fun to be sick but why not make it a little easier when they are. A drink to keep hydrated and a game to pass the time.
