What is hot honey?

Hot honey is a type of honey that is infused with chili peppers to give it a spicy kick. It’s a sweet and spicy condiment. The level of heat can vary depending on the type and amount of chili peppers used in the infusion.

Alternatively, you can add some red pepper flakes to the regular honey glaze to give it a little spice.

Can you use regular honey instead of hot honey?

If you do not like the extra spice that the hot honey gives to this meal you can sub regular honey or mix it half and half.

What are coconut aminos?

Coconut aminos are a savory sauce made from the fermented sap of coconut palm and sea salt. They are often used as a soy sauce alternative, especially for those who are avoiding soy or gluten. Coconut aminos have a slightly sweet and less salty flavor compared to traditional soy sauce.

Can you use soy sauce instead of coconut aminos?

I don’t like using soy sauce for many reasons. If you want to use soy sauce instead of coconut aminos, yes, of course. But I have subbed out coconut aminos for soy sauce because: 1) I am gluten free and unless you get gluten free soy sauce, this is one of those kitchen ingredients with hidden gluten in it. 2) I prefer the taste of coconut aminos to soy sauce. 3) My body doesn’t react well to lots of soy.  So there you go, use soy sauce if you want, but this is just an explanation why I have replaced it in this recipe.

These honey garlic drumsticks will soon be one of your favorite recipes. Serve with side dishes like mashed potatoes, green beans, garlic knots, cauliflower rice, or cilantro lime rice for a complete meal.

I love with these Hot Honey Garlic Chicken Drumsticks! They are packed with flavor and have such a pretty, delicious glaze on top! These are incredibly easy and take such little effort to make for how amazing they taste. Coated in a hot honey garlic sauce, the slight spice from the hot honey just makes this mouthwatering.

Ingredients

  • 10 chicken leg drumsticks
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • ⅓ cup coconut aminos
  • 3 tablespoon hot honey
  • 2 tablespoon of minced garlic cloves
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Instructions

    1. In a medium bowl add the olive oil, sesame oil, coconut aminos, hot honey, garlic, pepper, and salt and stir.

    2. In a large ziploc bag, add the chicken legs into it and pour the sauce on top and zip up.

    3. Shake around gently, making sure the sauce is coating the chicken.

    4. At this point, you can either let the chicken marinate in the bag in the fridge for 1-24 hours or go ahead and cook.

    5. To cook, preheat the oven to 375° and add all the chicken legs to a 9x13 baking dish or rimmed baking sheet and place in the preheated oven.

    6. Bake for 50-55 minutes or until the chicken is completely cooked through and they are brown and glazed on top.

    7. Broil or toast for 1-3 minutes if you want an extra crispy skin on top.

    8. Garnish with green onions or sesame seeds (optional) and serve!

Notes

  • Store in an airtight container in the fridge for 2-3 days
  • Drizzle the leftover chicken juices from the baking dish over top of your mashed potatoes or rice.
  • You can reduce the amount of hot honey or sub regular honey to make it less spicy.
  • You can let them marinate in the bag for 1-24 hours if you want to prep ahead.
