Crock Pot Italian Beef Sandwiches are a delicious, hearty meal that’s incredibly easy to prepare in a slow cooker or crock pot. This classic dish involves slow-cooking beef until it’s melt-in-your-mouth tender, then piling it onto a sub roll with cheese.
The beauty of making Italian beef in a crock pot is that it allows you to create rich, deep flavors with minimal effort, making it perfect for busy weeknights or weekend gatherings.
To make Italian beef in the crock pot, you start with a good cut of beef—often a chuck roast or rump roast. These cuts are well-marbled, which means they become tender and juicy when slow-cooked. The meat is seasoned with a blend of seasonings for lots of flavor.
The secret to an authentic Italian beef sandwich lies in the “au jus,” or the beef’s cooking juices. As the beef slowly simmers for several hours, it releases flavorful juices that mingle with the spices and aromatics.
These juices can be served as a dipping sauce or drizzled directly over the sandwich for extra moisture and flavor.
What is giardiniera?
Giardiniera is a spicy mix of pickled vegetables and is a traditional topping that adds crunch and a bit of heat to the sandwich. You can buy these at the grocery store, make your own, or try these pickled banana peppers if you want a less spicy flavor.
When the beef is tender and easily shreds with a fork, it’s ready to serve. Pile the juicy, shredded beef onto a sturdy roll – like a sub roll, hoagie roll, or even French bread – that can stand up to the delicious messy juices.
Add the cheese, and the result is a mouthwatering combination of savory, spicy, and tangy flavors that make Italian beef sandwiches a true comfort food classic. Whether served for a game day party or a cozy family dinner, this crock pot recipe is sure to be a hit.
What do you serve with Italian Beef Sandwiches?
You can serve just about anything with these beefy sandwiches, but a few good options are: potato chips, green beans, a salad, or cinnamon apples.
If you don’t want a sandwich, this Italian Beef is great served on a baked potato or zucchini noodles with a side of easy cheesy garlic bread.
