I have loved waffles ever since I was a kid. The fresh, homemade kind that my mother made were the best waffles ever. When I became an adult and got my own waffle maker, I started playing around with her homemade waffle recipe and soon found that you can waffle just about anything. If you love your waffle iron as much as I love mine, I think you will enjoy these unique waffle recipes.
What I love about waffles is that yes, they bake a delicious breakfast, but you can also have them for snack, dinner, and sometimes even a dessert. There are sweet waffles, savory waffles, omelet waffles, bacon waffles, chocolate waffles, dessert waffles…you get the idea! Waffles are so versatile and delicious. They are great for a weekend brunch or you can even freeze most recipes to have the perfect waffles on a busy weekday morning.
Forget the store-bought waffles, this list is sure to inspire you to gather up some simple ingredients to make some of the best waffle recipes out there.
What toppings are good on waffles?
Of course it depends on what kind of waffles you are making, but these are some popular toppings for sweet waffles: maple syrup, fresh fruit, melted butter, peanut butter, cinnamon apples, or fresh berries. If you are going the dessert type waffles, toppings like caramel sauce, chocolate chips, dulce de leche, ice cream or whipped cream. For savory waffles, some ideas include sour cream or green onions, but again, it depends on the recipe.
What makes a waffle recipe unique?
Any recipe that goes beyond your class waffle recipe I’ve included in the list below. Banana Pudding Waffles, cinnamon roll waffles, churro waffles, red velvet waffles with fried chicken, the waffle iron is the perfect canvas for anything your brain can think of! There are so many different ways to enjoy this breakfast classic, just by adding a little creativity.
I have included over 50 of the most delicious, most unique waffle recipes I could locate. What is the best waffle iron?
When you are making homemade waffles, I think that it does not really matter what equipment you use, just that you use enough spray oil (and follow recipe instructions) to make sure your waffles do not stick. If you want a budget waffle iron, Amazon makes one for under $20 that makes two squares at a time and Dash has one around $10 that makes a small circle waffle. You can also find season Dash waffle irons if you prefer hearts or pumpkins, and they may also be available on Amazon now, so check it out. If you want Belgian waffles, try this one from Müeller. For waffle sticks, this one from Cuisinart is fun. And here is the Bubble Waffle Maker. For making a lot of waffles in a short time span, I recommend the bigger ones like this one from Dash in fun colors, or the Green Pan waffle maker. I like the Green Pan because it makes Belgian waffles or classic waffles and you can select the darkness level and whether you want crispy or fluffy waffles.
