Simple Ways to Update Your Home… That Won’t Break The Bank!

update your home

We have lived in our current home for just over five years now.  It is always exciting to think about moving to a new house, getting to paint and design new rooms, etc, but then common sense hits and I realize it is a TON of work and costs a lot, as well! Those bigger upgrades, such as getting the Wolf Mattress 13-inch hybrid plush mattress to replace the one you’ve got, are often going to cost a little more money but it’s super worth it. However, you don’t have to be ready to do those bigger upgrades just yet if you don’t want to.

I enjoy making small changes to our home.  Eventually we will repaint certain rooms, but today is not the day. Small changes can make a big difference in any home.  Here are a few ways that you can update your home without it costing a lot of money or time.

Accessorize

Quickly modernize your home by switching out old, outdated knobs, handles, and even lightswitch plates.  It’s a simple thing, but it can make a big difference.

Paint an Accent Wall or Front Door

It does not take much paint to cover one wall or your front door.  Look for paint sales around holidays and save.  One accent wall can breathe new life into a room, making it fun and unique.  Create an accent wall with wallpaper to make an easy upgrade.  Painting the front door will make your house look great from the outside.

Wall Stenciling

If you like the idea of changing a wall (or walls,) but do not want to go crazy and paint the entire wall, try using stencils to create a fun look!

Organize A Closet

I think we all have at least one closet that needs help!  Tackle this project in 1-2 days and it will relieve a lot of stress once you step into a well organized closet.  Check out how The Java Mama gave her son’s closet a makeover.

Organize Your Bathroom

Update Your Light Fixtures

If your light fixtures are still stuck in the 80’s or 90’s, a simple upgrade can bring a room into the year 2016!  Check out your local home stores for a fresh, new look.

Update Your Pictures!

Hanging up new family photos is one of my favorite things to do.  You do not have to get rid of the old photos, but hanging a new photo can be fun and refreshing!  We all had changed a lot since this picture was taken last year, so I knew it was time for an updated picture!

We took pictures of the boys and hung them up, and after that, had my favorite picture from Mother’s Day made into a canvas.

We will relocate the other family picture, but I love that this updated picture of our family is the focal point in our living room.  It makes me happy every time I see it!  The quality is excellent!  A picture of this canvas really does not do it justice.
