“Mommy! I’m soooooo hungry!”

“Mommy!  I’m soooooooooooooo hungry!” is something I hear often from Captain Fussybuckets.  Most of the time, he knows exactly what we want (and we have it) or he’ll choose something if I give him choices.  I need to work on my choices and expand upon what I offer him.  There are a couple of things that he’ll usually always eat – turkey hot dogs (nitrate and nitrite free!), oranges, peaches, strawberries, cherries, grapes, apples, plumcots, ham and cheese or peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, Annie’s mac & cheese, tuna salad and crackers, any baked goods we have, and cereal.

He really wants to like smoothies, but I’ve tried a few different recipe and he just doesn’t like them.  Oddly enough, he doesn’t care for milkshakes, either. I don’t know if it’s the whole drinking something ice cold through a straw or the fact that you might have to chew something you suck out of a straw?  ha!  I don’t know.  He does like ice cream, sometimes, but usually only to eat the cookies or candy that’s inside!

He’s not a fan of cheese, except American cheese on a ham and cheese sandwich or the occassional quesadilla or nachos.  I know, right,  what kid doesn’t like cheese?

I can see him trying new things and sometimes enjoying them, like carrots with Ranch or mild salsa.  His mind is opening and usually if he takes one bite, he can decide if he likes it and is proud of himself.  If we can continue this, we are sure to find more stuff he loves!

What is your child’s favorite go-to food?  Are they willing to try new things?

My granddaughter loves Chocolate Boost and Chocolate malt Ovaltine: Have you tried Welches Grape juice fortified with calcium? this is a great alternative calcium source! just make sure NOT to serve with a meat  protein, because iron blocks calcium absorbtion.

My 4 year old wants snacks all the time!  I offer her the same things every time.  And she always says, "I'm not sure what I want - will you tell me my choices?"  funny and exasperating.
