Dairy Fairy – Help For Low Milk Supply Mommies

Disclosure: I received this product as part of an advertorial. All opinions are mine.

Being that Baby Brother is #3 for us, you would think that we had it all down.  While I do feel like I was very well prepared going into this for the third time, I never quite knew what to expect.  Breastfeeding was never easy with the Captain or Baby D, and after countless chats with lactation consultants, doctors, fellow mommies, and reading up on my own, I now realize that having to supplement the boys wasn’t my choice, but there are great ways to give the most and best to my newest bundle of joy.  I know that breastfeeding is best for babies, and I am so happy to have breastfed the boys for as long as I did, but we did always have to supplement, and while most people were understanding and supportive, there are some people that just won’t be supportive at all.  I’m glad that there are honestly nice people out there, doing all they can to support new moms and not give them a guilt trip for their choices, or as was in my case, things that weren’t my choice.

Having chronic low supply, I wanted to go into this experience the third time with all the knowledge I could.  I found out that it is estimated that between 5 and 10% of women physically cannot exclusively breastfeed their babies.  Whether it be thyroid problems, hormones, IGT, hypoplasia, breast reduction, breast implants, or whatever the cause may be, there is a great number of women who want to breastfeed, but simply cannot.  For me, no amount of education, preparation, or newfangled device is going to give me a full supply for my baby, but I do have secret tricks in my bag for giving him all that I can.  Breastfeeding does NOT have to be all or nothing!  Then there are women who just need a little boost from time to time to keep up their milk supply for their baby or babies, and that is completely normal, as well.

Through my research during pregnancy, I received the recommendation to check out Euphoric Herbals, which is a small business ran by a mom who is a doula, as well.  She is very educated on holistic healing and the use of herbs during pregnancy, motherhood, and even has developed products for the whole family.  Upon researching the different lactation blends she has in store, I decided I should try Dairy Fairy. The description on the website states:  “Compound herbal formula for mothers that experience low supply, little breast change prenatally or are just looking for an “extra boost”.  It contains goats rue, fenugreek, alfalfa, blessed thistle, fennel, and marshmallow root.  I knew from my own personal research what each of these herbs are known to do, and was thrilled at this awesome blend.  I had taken fenugreek and blessed thistle with both boys, but hoped that this blend had a little more “oomph.”  Here’s a rundown of the herbs included, from the Mobi Motherhood International site:

  • goat’s rue – especially helpful for women with insufficient glandular tissue
  • fenugreek – best known and most frequently taken galactagogue in the US
  • alfalfa – said to promote the development of glandular tissue of the breasts
  • blessed thistle – increases the flow of gastric and bile secretion, and thus, increases flow of breast milk
  • fennel – increases milk supply and helps with letdown
  • marshmallow root – soothes and calms inflammation and assists other herbs in milk production

All of Euphoric Herbal’s products are USDA certified organic, so you’re getting JUST the herbs, not chemicals or pesticides, which is a huge advantage for a nursing mother.  With that, I was sold and ordered a month supply of Dairy Fairy during one of her awesome sales.  Well, I began taking Dairy Fairy the day after Baby Brother was born.  (That’s not recommended unless you know you have chronic low supply and have had issues with previous babies, of course.)  Breastfeeding began much easier this time around and he didn’t have to be supplemented much early on.  Of course, he was 10 lbs, 7 oz, so the boy did like to eat from day one.  Two months later, we’re still going strong and I have Dairy Fairy to thank.

The dosage is fairly simple, too, at 2 capsules, twice a day.  Easy compared to some of the other herbal regimens!

When I was offered a bottle of Dairy Fairy to review, you better believe I jumped on it!  I am such a fan of this wonderful blend and although I do still have to supplement, I know for a fact that it has helped my supply and letdown time, as well.  I know many moms who Dairy Fairy has helped or boosted their already sufficient supply.  This stuff is golden and Cindy definitely knows her herbal stuff!

It doesn’t stop there though…she has developed so many wonderful products that I can’t wait to try, such as respiratory relief syrup, herbal teas for different stages of your life (or headaches!), bottom spray, iron tonic syrup, elderberry elixir, baby balm, super salve, “bugs suck” spray, antifungal salve, calm cream, and even a placenta encapsulation kit.  What did I say?  She knows her stuff and has great customer reviews and feedback.

If you would like additional information on chronic low supply, I recommend reading Making More Milk by Diana West and Lisa Marasco, joining the Chronic Low Milk Supply Facebook group (only for those who have never and will never have a full supply,) as well as visiting these websites: Diary of a Lactation Failure and Not Everyone Can Breastfeed.  No matter what, breastfeeding to some extent is usually always possible, but it is ultimately a decision only the mom and supportive father can make.  Keep your chin up, shed the guilt, and know that you are the one who knows your baby best and only you can provide the one thing he needs the most and that’s you and your love.  Babies love their mommies, whether or not they’re being fed from a breast, bottle, syringe, cup, spoon, or SNS!
