Create a Pregnancy Keepsake with the Belly Casting Kit

This belly casting kit post was brought to you by Pearhead.  All opinions are mine.

It has been a whole different experience being pregnant this time around, with Baby #3.  The Captain and D are both old enough to find my huge belly fascinating and ask questions…lots and lots of questions.  It's hard to believe that in a few weeks, this belly will be considerably smaller (haha, let's hope!)  I wanted to be able to create a lasting memory and pregnancy keepsake that involved both boys, and I knew I had found it with Pearhead's Belly Casting Kit.

It is recommended that you wait until the very end of your pregnancy so your belly will be at it's biggest.  I waited until about 38 weeks and it worked pretty well.  The kit comes with:

  • 5 rolls of plaster tape
  • belly casting lubricant
  • plastic drop cloth
  • non-latex gloves
  • sanding screen

I had the boys help me with this project, but in reality, should have waited until Daddy was home.  It was a bit messy, though not too bad, but probably messier that the boys were helping.  You have to cut the rolls of plaster tape into long strips, dip them in water, and then place them on your belly.  This was fun for a few times but then D just wanted to play in the water, of course, but I was able to finish it up myself and even take some pictures.

After it's all done, you simply let it dry on your belly for about 10 minutes.  Then, you take it off and let it dry for a day.  After that, you can do whatever you want with it…paint it, hang it with a ribbon, etc.  I am still deciding what I want to do with mine, but it does look great without doing anything at all "artistically" speaking.

You can purchase the Belly Casting Art Kit at the Pearhead website or Amazon for less than $25.  It's such a simple, fun activity that you will always have to cherish those last few days of pregnancy.  This would also make a terrific shower gift for a mom-to-be.

That's a really neat way to sort of freeze time :)  I mean no one really wants to be pregnant forever - but it is such a precious time of nurturing your baby and it deserves to be celebrated and remembered!
